United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has condemned the recent murder of a broadcast journalist in Somalia.
Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO’s Director General, condemned the brutal murder of Jamal Farah Adan.
The Somali broadcast journalist was killed on March 1 in Galkayo.
In her address, Azoulay said that UNESCO condemns Adan’s killing.
She called upon authorities in Somalia to investigate the matter deeply and bring all culprits to book.
UNESCO’s Director General also equated attacks against journalists to a “criminal form of censorship.”
Adan, a freelancer broadcast journalist, worked with several local radio stations that include Radio Garowe, Radio Galkayo, and Radio Daljir to mention a few.
Unidentified men shot him while he was outside a shop that his family owns in Galkayo.
