The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative to Somalia has called for the empowerment of the girl child in the country.
Niyi Ojuolape, the UNFPA Representative, was speaking during the International Day of the Girl Child.
Celebrations to mark the day took place on Wednesday, October 11.
Ojuolape called for community-wide interventions to uplift the girl child in the East African nation.
He encouraged stakeholders around the country to pursue the empowerment of the girl child as a matter of national priority.
“An empowered girl would always lift her entire community,” said Ojuolape.
Consequently, he added that the government and other stakeholders to ensure that girls have access to quality education and health services.
