UNFPA to Continue Running Programs for GBV Victims

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has promised to continue running and supporting programs Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) programs in Somalia.

Anders Thomsen, UNPFA Representative in Somalia, made this reassurance on January 7 during a meeting with one of the country’s service providers.

During Thursday’s session, Thomsen reassured Somalis that the organization would not stop running the program that provides psychological assistance to victims of SGBV in the country.

Furthermore, he also guaranteed increased support to SGBV victims who need medical treatment.

Somali survivors of rape are also entitled to rape kits from the UNFPA-funded programs.

Additionally, UNFPA’s Thomsen vowed that it would promote the right of all Somali women and girls to live in a society that is free of SGBV.
