The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has pledged to help Somalia to find lasting solutions to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) issue.
This emerged after a meeting between Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Filippo Grandi.
Grandi is the UNHCR chief.
President Mohamud and the UNHCR chief met at Villa Somalia on Friday, October 21.
The Somali President reiterated his government’s commitment to finding a lasting solution to the problems that IDPs face and the factors responsible for their situation.
Currently, the ongoing drought in Somalia has created more IDPs around the country.
He also encouraged the UNHCR to help the country in the fight against terrorism.
Furthermore, President Mohamud appealed for assistance from the UNHCR and other international partners in prioritizing political stability in Somalia.
