United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) celebrated the launch of double shifts in 488 schools in Somalia in 2020.
On January 7, 2021, the organization hailed the introduction of the double shifts in Somali schools.
While praising this move, UNICEF stated that the double shifts had ensured that more children now have access to quality education.
In its statement, UNICEF acknowledged that more Somali children are now able to not only go to school but also learn in the afternoon.
It congratulated Education Cannot Wait, a multilateral fund dedicated to supporting children’s education in war zones, for the collaboration that has made double shifts a success in Somalia.
UNICEF recognized the contribution by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Education and USAID Somalia in making double shifts successful in Somalia too.
