As the World Polio Day is celebrated globally on Saturday October 24, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) took the opportunity to congratulate polio health workers in Somalia.
UNICEF issued a press release hailing the “unwavering commitment” the workers continue to display in their profession.
Furthermore, the global organization said that Somalia has made huge strides in its campaign to eradicate polio.
UNICEF mentioned that none of that would have been possible without the input of the workers in Somalia who specialize in immunizing all Somali children against polio.
The organization also commended the workers for making all effort to reach out to as many children as possible despite the massive challenges faced.
This year, the COVID-19 has made the job of polio health workers much tougher.
Locust invasion and the ongoing heavy rainfalls and floods have also hindered polio health workers from accessing many parts of the country.
