United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) claims that hundreds of Somali children are dying around the country from the ongoing drought.
UNICEF said that it has witnessed the sad and heart-wrenching development in the East African nation.
According to UNICEF, the situation is worsened by the fact that many of those dying are then buried in mass graves “like garbage.”
Wafaa Saeed, UNICEF Representative to Somalia, said that close to 730 children have lost their lives in food and nutrition centers around the country between January and July 2022.
As per Saeed’s statement, the number could be much higher since many of the deaths have gone unreported.
UNICEF claims that diseases have made an already worse situation more unbearable for families across the country.
Currently, UNICEF has recorded 13,000 cases of outbreak of measles in recent months with 78 percent of those being children aged below 5 years.
