UNICEF Delivers 3 Million Routine Vaccine Doses to Las Anod in Partnership with Federal and SSC-Khaatumo Health Ministries

In a significant boost to public health efforts, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has delivered nearly 3 million doses of routine vaccines to Las Anod, thanks to a collaborative initiative with Somalia’s federal Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health of SSC-Khaatumo.

The vaccines include life-saving immunizations against pneumonia and rotavirus diarrhea—two of the leading causes of child mortality in the region. The delivery marks a critical milestone in ongoing efforts to improve child health and combat preventable diseases in underserved communities.

“This large-scale vaccine delivery is part of our commitment to ensure every Somali child has access to essential health services, no matter where they live,” said a representative from the federal health ministry. “We commend the cooperation and coordination shown by all partners in making this happen.”

Officials from SSC-Khaatumo’s health ministry also welcomed the effort, describing it as a vital intervention in strengthening their routine immunization programs and expanding coverage in remote areas.

UNICEF reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Somali health authorities in achieving equitable access to health services. “These vaccines will help protect thousands of children from deadly yet preventable illnesses,” said a UNICEF spokesperson.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to rebuild the health system, restore trust in public health services, and promote community well-being following years of conflict and limited infrastructure in the area.
