The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has donated over 1.4 million vials of cholera vaccine to Somalia.
UNICEF handed over the vaccines to officials from Somalia’s Ministry of Health on Monday.
Last week, it was widely reported that Somalia lacked adequate vaccines for cholera despite a surge in the number of cases since the beginning of the year.
Close to 60 people have died of cholera since the turn of the year.
The vials, which are worth $2.5 million, will be delivered to the five hotspots of the disease around the East African nation.
Seventy-five percent of the 4,388 cases in Somalia are children.
