UNICEF Donates $2.9 Million to Support Puntland Education

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has donated $2.9 million to support education in Puntland.

UNICEF received the funds from Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

School-going children in Puntland are unable to access quality education because of ongoing crises and challenges in the region.

Insecurity brought about by extremists in the region has also worsened the situation further.

Puntland’s Ministry of Education expressed delight at the donation. It acknowledged that the funds would increase equitable access to education.

Furthermore, the funds would also enable the quality of education in the region to improve substantially.

UNICEF said that part of the funds would ensure that learning conditions in Puntland schools would also improve.

Teachers would receive quality training too while students would not only be mobilized but also enrolled and retained in schools.

With the new donation, GPE’s total contribution to Puntland’s education system in 2020 has now surpassed $13 million.
