United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced plans to increase its engagements with youths in Somalia to prepare them for the job market.
Mohamed M. M. Fall, UNICEF Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa, announced these plans on Tuesday, October 27.
Director Fall stated that the organization has developed several programs that would help its engagements with youths in different areas.
He listed these areas as water, hygiene, and sanitation services, which have increased significantly in importance since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, the organization has partnered with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) to train youth in various parts of the country.
Mostly, its partnership with ADRA, state authorities, and the Youth Engagement in WASH Services Project, has helped to establish Dalxiiska Training Center in Kismayo.
Through this center, several youths have received excellent training that equips them with wide-ranging skills to enable them make a living.
Some of these skills include plumbing, installation and repairs of solar panels, constructing and desludging pit latrines, and making soap.
Director Mohamed Fall said that the training is crucial especially in the face of the numerous economic and financial challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
