The United Nations has confirmed that one of the confirmed Coronavirus cases in Somalia is an employee working for a commercial contractor engaged with the global organization.

Prior to the positive diagnosis, the contractor was in quarantine for eight days.

Currently, medical professionals in Somalia are interviewing the employee to ascertain the number of people the individual contacted.

In a statement released to the public, the UN in Somalia said, “We take the Coronavirus pandemic seriously. We have prepared ourselves for such an eventuality.”

United Nations in Somalia says it has put all the relevant support, medical, and operating procedures in place.

It further states that its thoughts are with the contractor. United Nations also says that it supports all measures taken to prevent the virus from spreading further.

UN is working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Ministry of Health to prepare the health systems and personnel to contain and mitigate the outbreak in Somalia.
