The United States has imposed sanctions on several entities suspected of funding Al-Shabaab.
The Department of the Treasury announced the sanctions on Monday.
Sixteen entities and individuals in the Horn of Africa region are the subject of the new measures imposed by the US government.
Several others are also in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Cyprus.
According to the Department of the Treasury, Al-Shabaab generates more than $100 million per year from the criminal and illegal activities it undertakes in Somalia and elsewhere.
