United States Ambassador to Somalia, Donald Yamamoto, has expressed his government’s sadness at the recent plane crash in the country.
On Tuesday, a plane crashed in Central Somalia while carrying food supplies for the local population.
Yamamoto says the US Embassy in Mogadishu is saddened by news that the plane and the food it was carrying were later destroyed.
It termed the whole incident “unfortunate.”
Fortunately, nobody was injured as the crew of three – two pilots and an engineer – was safely rescued and taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The plane, which is owned by a Kenyan firm known as Bluebird Aviation, was carrying foodstuff donated by Djibouti.
Nevertheless, Washington has vowed to continue offering logistical and humanitarian assistance in the region.
