Unknown gunmen shot and killed a police officer in Mogadishu on Saturday. The incident, which took place in Dharkenlay District of Mogadishu, attracted several onlookers.
According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified gunmen shot the officer before taking off with his pistol just before other officers arrived.
Security officers have launched an investigation into the matter although no arrests have been made yet.
However, Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Al-Qaeda linked group published a statement on several sites affiliated to its media partners claiming that its fighters killed the officer.
The officer has been identified as Lieutenant Ali Rage.
This incident is the latest assassination carried out by Al-Shabaab in Mogadishu since the beginning of June.
