The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) in Somalia announced that from July 2023 to May 2024, it successfully cleared over 1.8 million square meters of land from mines and explosive remnants of war.
This clearance effort has significantly enhanced the safety and well-being of approximately 13,535 people in the region.
Notably, 86% of the cleared land is now being utilized productively, supporting access, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
This progress underscores the critical role of mine action in promoting stability and development in conflict-affected areas of Somalia.
