UN’s Deputy Secretary General Pledges More Support for Somalia’s Peace Efforts

Amina J. Mohamed, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, has pledged more support for peace efforts in Somalia.

Mohamed made this pledge on October 30 when she visited Somalia.

She visited the East African nation as part of celebrations held to mark the 20th Anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325.

While addressing representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed reminded authorities of the importance of including women in peace efforts.

Further, she said that women play critical roles in post-conflict reconstruction efforts.

Her remarks come at a time when Somalia is scheduled to increase the quota of women representation in politics and various leadership positions.
