The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has officially approved the deployment of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which will replace the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
Supported by the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), AUSSOM is set to play a critical role in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to enhance stability, security, and counter the threat posed by Al-Shabaab.
This decision underscores the international community’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s journey toward self-reliance in security and governance while maintaining pressure on extremist groups.
AUSSOM aims to build on the progress made by ATMIS and further empower Somali-led initiatives for long-term peace and development
