UNSC Calls for Immediate De-Escalation of Las Anod Violence

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has called for the immediate de-escalation of violence in Las Anod.

UNSC member states held a session on Wednesday urging warring parties in Las Anod to embrace an immediate ceasefire.

Las Anod has witnessed violent clashes over the last few months.

The clashes have led to the deaths of several civilians while displacing close to 150,000 people.

UNSC members commended Ethiopia, Somalia, and other stakeholders who have been involved in pursuing mediation in the region.

They also asked UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) to provide the support needed to bring about an effective ceasefire.
