The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has urged Somali leaders to solve the ongoing electoral impasse “urgently.”
Somalia has been embroiled in a polls crisis that threatens the stability and peace of the nation.
Political leaders have already taken hard stances.
Despite numerous attempts to bring the different players to the table to discuss their differences and find solutions, nothing much has changed.
The East African nation should have held parliamentary and presidential elections in December 2020 and February 2021 respectively.
On March 31, the UNSC issued a statement calling for “inclusive elections” in Somalia.
UNSC issued this statement after holding a closed-door meeting with James Swan, its Special Representative to Somalia.
