United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) is to deploy an inter-agency team for the market fire disaster in Hargeisa.
UNSOM intends to deploy the team with immediate effect.
The organization announced these plans on April 3, a few days after the fire disaster that reduced Waaheen Market in Hargeisa to ruins.
In its statement, UNSOM expressed “deep sadness” at the news of the fire disaster.
It recognized the negative impact that the fire will now have on the livelihoods of thousands of traders.
Close to 2,000 business premises were reduced to ashes in the disaster.
UNSOM announced that it would form the inter-agency team in conjunction with other UN agencies as well as the federal and regional governments.
