UNSOM Discusses Areas of Support with Southwest Leadership

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) met with the leadership of the Southwest region to discuss areas of support.

Officials from the UN, International Organization for Migration (IOM), and UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) were all in Baidoa on Thursday over this issue.

The officials met with President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Lafta-Gareen of Southwest State and his cabinet members to discuss several issues affecting the semiautonomous state.

Some of the issues discussed include humanitarian aid, reconciliation, development, and the environment.

Southwest state is facing a barrage of challenges.

Several top leaders in the state have added their voice to the call for humanitarian assistance from Somalia and the country’s international partners.
