The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) is committed to supporting food relief efforts to refugees in Kismayo.
UNSOM made its intention known on January 31 during a meeting between James Swan, the UN Special Envoy to Somalia, and local Jubbaland leaders.
On Sunday, Swan held a meeting with President Ahmed Islam Madobe of Jubbaland in Kismayo.
During their meeting, the leaders discussed the importance of boosting food relief efforts towards refugees in Kismayo.
Apart from Swan, other representatives from the World Food Program (WFP) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) attended the Kismayo meeting too.
World Health Organization (WHO) as well as Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) also had their representatives at the meeting.
These UN agencies discussed various ways of supporting the administration and people of Jubbaland.
UNSOM assured President Madobe of support in various areas that his administration has prioritized, which include health, fisheries, and food relief to refugees.
Swan led the delegation from the UN to Jubbaland to discuss solutions for the ongoing elections impasse too.
