Uproar Over the 75 Camels a Somali Rapist Paid to Escape Death

A Somali man, who has been on death row for raping and murdering a 12-year old girl in Garowe, is now free.

He was set free after paying 75 camels to escape death.

The decision to accept the 75 camels has been met with outcry in the Horn of Africa nation.

Critics say that his release is an affront to the law meant to curb gender-based violence in the country.

Furthermore, human rights activists say that the 75 camels Abdisalan Abdirahman paid for his freedom will continue promoting a culture of impunity that has been the hallmark in the nation.

Abdirahman was one of the three men arrested for kidnapping, raping, and murdering the 12-year old Aisha Ilyes Aden in Garowe.

Recently, the courts found his co-accused found guilty of the crime and sentenced them to execution by a firing squad.

The decision to execute them was hailed all over the country and beyond.
