Mogadishu – United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed on Sunday that it conducted two airstrikes against ISIS militants in Somalia, aimed at degrading the group’s operational capabilities in the region.
The first strike occurred on May 31, 2025, and the second followed on June 1, both approximately 72 kilometers south of Bosaso, in Puntland State.
AFRICOM did not disclose the number of casualties or damage assessments but underscored the threat posed by ISIS-Somalia, citing the group’s “demonstrated ability and willingness to attack U.S. forces.”
The strikes are part of continued U.S. efforts to support Somali and regional security partners in their fight against extremist groups threatening stability in the Horn of Africa.
