Ambassador McCain visited President Mohamud on Friday.
Currently, the Somali President is in Rome for the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Governing Council.
They discussed the need for forming stronger partnerships between their respective nations.
Furthermore, the issue of drought resilience and response featured strongly in their discussions in the Italian capital.
Issues pertaining to food and water security around the world also attracted their attention.
