The United States is closely monitoring the continued detention of a Somali journalist.
The US Embassy in Mogadishu issued a press release on October 13 indicating that it continues to keep a close eye on the detention of Abdalle Mumin, a local journalist.
Reports indicate that the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) arrested Mumin.
The US hailed Mumin as a journalist who has championed freedom of the press in Somalia.
It also commended Mumin’s relentless support for the development of a media that is not only professional but also independent in Somalia.
According to the Embassy, it has already received assurances from the highest levels of the Somali government that authorities would respect the rule of law in Mumin’s case.
