US Congratulates Somaliland’s President-Elect Irro

The United States government  has congratulated Somaliland on conducting a peaceful and democratic election.

Molly Pher, the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs emphasized the U.S.’s commitment to fostering collaboration with President-Elect Abdirahman Irro to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

This acknowledgment underscores international recognition of Somaliland’s efforts to uphold democratic processes.

Irro, through his Waddani Party, emerged victorious in the November 13 presidential and parliamentary elections in Somaliland.

He defeated the incumbent President Muse Bihi Abdi and the ruling Kulmiye Party by gathering over 60 percent of the votes compared to the less than 35% that the latter got.
