The United States government has expressed delight at the renewal of diplomatic ties between Kenya and Somalia.
US Bureau of African Affairs expressed delight at the recent meeting between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia and President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya.
Mohamud and Kenyatta met in Nairobi, Kenya last week.
The two leaders led their respective nations in signing various trade agreements.
In its statement, the Bureau of African Affairs stated that the renewed ties between the two nations would boost trade and security.
The Bureau also expressed its belief that the region would enjoy more stability as Somalia and Kenya work closely in the fight against Al-Shabaab and other terrorist groups.
The two neighboring nations had a frosty relationship in the last few years under the leadership of the immediate former Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
