The United States delivered a donation of 302,400 Johnson & Johnson vaccines to Somalia on Friday, August 13.
A statement from the Department of State indicated that the vaccines are part of the 25 million doses that the US promised to donate to African Union (AU) member countries.
The US delivered the vaccines through a partnership with the AU and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
Furthermore, the donation also reached the East African nation through the COVAX Facility.
Somalia has witnessed an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases reported from different parts of the country.
Its people are at greater risk because of the lack of properly functional healthcare system.
