US Embassy Affirms Support to Security Reforms in Somalia

United States Embassy in Somalia has affirmed continued support to the ongoing reforms in the security sector in the country.

On Tuesday, the Embassy said that it would continue supporting reforms in the sector that lead to a “brighter future” for the country and all Somalis.

In the meantime, it condemned the twin evils of corruption and nepotism, which it cites as factors capable of derailing the reform process in the country.

“Furthermore, corruption and nepotism are responsible for undermining the security of the people of Somalia,” the Embassy said in a tweet posted on its official Twitter handle.

The Embassy urged the people and government of Somalia to defeat corruption and nepotism to stop strengthening the enemies of the East African nation.

Despite this, it is not lost on observers that the US government is yet to lift the arms embargo imposed on the Horn of Africa nation.
