US Embassy in Mogadishu Celebrates Three Years Since Reopening

The United States Embassy in Mogadishu is celebrating three years since reopening in the Somalia capital.

The US Embassy celebrated its third year of offering various services in Mogadishu on October 2.

It reopened the Mogadishu embassy on October 3, 2019.

Previously, the Embassy had been shut down for close to three decades after Somalia fell into one of its deadliest civil wars.

Washington opted to close the embassy after ex-President Siad Barre’s government was overthrown in a coup d’etat in 1991.

During the Sunday celebrations, the Embassy under the leadership of Ambassador Larry Andre promised to continue supporting the people of Somalia.

It also vowed to support Somali leaders to revive the country.
