The US Embassy in Mogadishu has commended the meeting between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) in Dhusamareb for reaching a consensus.
Leaders representing FGS and FMS have been meeting in Galmudug’s administrative capital for the last two weeks to talk about various issues affecting the country.
Among the items on their agenda were the upcoming polls, whose preparations and model to be used have become quite contentious issues.
Two days ago, leaders at the meeting announced that they had reached a consensus.
They said the country would hold timely elections on November 2020 and February 2021 as initially scheduled.
The US Embassy also commended leaders for forming a technical committee to look at election modalities.
Furthermore, the Embassy urged all Somali leaders to continue pursuing compromise for the upcoming polls.
It also urged leaders to focus on holding timely, peaceful, and pragmatic elections that propel Somalia a step closer to realistic democratization process.
