The United States Embassy in Somalia has condemned the continued arrest, detention, and harassment of journalists in Somaliland.
The Embassy blasted the decision by the government of Somaliland to arrest and continued violation of the rights of journalists in the country.
It reiterated its desire and commitment to defend press freedom in the Horn of African nations.
The Embassy expressed its sentiment via Twitter where it also called upon Somaliland to not only “respect but also uphold and protect the right to freedom of expression.”
Somaliland has arrested several journalists since 2019 for wide-ranging reasons, which politicians in the country and international partners have roundly condemned.
