US Embassy in Somalia Hails Announcement of FGS-FMS Meeting

The United States Embassy in Somalia has hailed the announcement of a meeting between Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS).

President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia confirmed that a meeting between the two sides has been scheduled for early July 2020.

Recently, there have been fears that the two sides would be unable to meet to discuss issues affecting the lives of Somalis in the country.

With the news that a meeting is now penciled in for July, Somalis in and outside the country can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Among the issues to be discussed during the meeting are the upcoming elections of 2020 and 2021 and the fight against terrorism.

In recent months, Al-Shabaab has increased its attacks around the country thus worsening the already dire security situation.

COVID-19 and its impact on the economy are also likely to feature during the talks between the two sides.

The US Embassy in Mogadishu said it believes in cooperation and understanding as the basis for forging a path forward to prosperity, peace, and stability in Somalia.

Furthermore, the US confirmed that it would never cease supporting Somalia’s pursuit towards prosperity, peace, and democracy.
