US Government Donates 24 APCs to ATMIS

The United States government has donated 24 Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

The US delivered the APCs to ATMIS in Somalia on Wednesday, August 3.

The APCs will help ATMIS to continue helping the Somali government in the fight against Al-Shabaab.

Further, they will use the APCs to protect civilians and critical infrastructure.

Djiboutian soldiers serving as part of the ATMIS force are the direct beneficiaries of the latest donation of the APCs from the US.

The Djiboutian contingent currently serves in Beledweyne and the surrounding areas.

Larry Andre, the US Ambassador to Somalia, handed over the APCs at a ceremony that took place at the ATMIS Headquarters in Mogadishu.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Andre stated that the US remains committed to the peace and stability of the East African nation.
