US Military Airstrikes Kill 29 Al-Shabaab Fighters in Somalia in 2020

Two more Al-Shabaab fighters have been killed in the latest drone attack carried out by the US military in Somalia. United States carried out the hit together with Somali National Army against Al-Shabaab fighters in Buulo Fulay.

Thus far, the US military and SNA troops have conducted thirty-two such attacks in 2020. Most of these attacks have been against Al-Shabaab’s militants located in southern and central Somalia.

Intelligence officials say that the fighters prefer these locations for the remote villages that they have converted into cells for training and recruiting new members. During the operations, military forces are often careful to avoid killing or injuring civilians.

Reports now show that the attacks have helped troops from both countries to kill 29 members of the extremist group. Al-Shabaab uses Somalia as the base from which to conduct all its operations.

Despite the successes, the attacks are not without any controversy, though. The United States has faced several accusations of killing civilians but its officials continue stating that they only conduct operations that are not only “well thought but also properly executed.”
