US Military to Continue Engaging with Somali Forces Despite Withdrawing from Somalia

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has vowed to continue engaging with Somali forces despite pulling its troops out of Somalia.

AFRICOM made the assurance on January 17, two days after completing withdrawal of its troops from the East African nation.

While speaking to the media, Colonel Christopher P. Karns, the spokesperson for AFRICOM, confirmed that the troops had all left Somalia.

Further, he assured the people and government of Somalia that the US troops would continue engaging with their Somali counterparts.

Col. Karns promised that AFRICOM would cooperate with Somali National Army (SNA) forces to maintain pressure against Al-Shabaab and other extremist groups.

AFRICOM troops have now been repositioned in other nations in the Horn of Africa region after being withdrawn from Somalia on January 15.
