Over the past four years, a program known as Bar ama Baro (BAB) has distributed over 650,000 textbooks to Somali teachers and students.
BAB is the brainchild of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Today, the United States Ambassador to Somalia Richard H. Riley, reaffirmed USAID’s dedication to enhancing education in Somalia by transferring textbook copyrights to the Somali government.
This transfer marks a significant step towards empowering the Somali education system and ensuring sustainable access to educational resources.
He added that this would help to ensure that the more than 4 million Somali children who are out of school get access to education as soon as possible.
Amb. Riley mentioned that Somalia needs to return to the literacy levels of the 1970s that were once the envy of the entire African continent.
