US Renews Commitment to End Violence against Women in Somalia

The United States is firmly committed to ending violence against women and young girls in Somalia.

United States Embassy to Somalia reminded the country of this on Wednesday, December 2.

The Embassy made this proclamation as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence begun on November 25 and are scheduled to continue until December 10.

“We remain committed to advance women’s pursuit of equality in Somalia,” the US Embassy said in a statement issued today.

Somalia is one of the most dangerous countries for women and young girls.

Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) is uncomfortably high in the East African nation.
