The United States has expressed support for the strengthening of diplomatic ties between Somaliland and Taiwan.
The White House National Security Council posted its support.
In the tweet, White House expressed its pleasure in seeing Taiwan “stepping up engagement” with the Horn of Africa nation.
It also recognized the incredible role that Taiwan plays as a development partner in “health and education” sectors.
Furthermore, White House also hailed the technical assistance that the government of Taiwan has promised to extend to Hargeisa.
On July 1, the governments of Somaliland and Taiwan announced plans to set up representative offices in each country’s territory.
Since breaking free from Somalia in 1991, Somaliland has been yearning for international recognition without much success.
Similarly, Taiwan’s pursuit for international recognition as a separate state from China is yet to bear much fruit.
