The good news continues flying from all corners for Somalia.
On Thursday, the United States announced that it would cancel the remaining 100 percent of Somalia’s claims.
This is after the East African nation finally received full debt relief from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
Janet Yellen, the US Treasury Secretary, confirmed her government’s plans moments after the announcement by the Bretton Woods institutions.
“Debt relief is a massive milestone for Somalia,” said Yellen.
“We now urge all bilateral creditors of Somalia to not only be generous but also move expeditiously in ensuring that the nation proceeds on the path to continued recovery,” she added.
