US to Help Somalia to Counter Terrorism and Prevent Famine

The United States has pledged to help Somalia to counter terrorism and prevent famine.

Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, issued this pledge following a meeting between Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Victoria Nuland.

Nuland is the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.

The Somali President is currently in Washington DC for a series of meetings with senior US government officials.

Secretary of State Blinken expressed pleasure at seeing President Mohamud and Nuland discussing shared stabilization, good governance, and humanitarian goals.

He assured Somalia of the US government’s commitment to helping the East African nation to counter terrorism, prevent famine, advance democracy, and save lives.

President Mohamud and Nuland met on Friday, September 16.
