The United States government is scheduled to supply Somali National Army (SNA) with 100 light combat vehicles.
According to sources, the move is part of the efforts by the US government to counter Turkey’s growing influence in the East African nation.
Additionally, the light combat vehicles are designed to help the government of Somalia in its fight against Al-Shabaab and other militia groups in the country.
Last month, the US Department of Defense announced tenders for the supply of 100 light transport and combat vehicles.
The tenders were announced less than a month after Turkey delivered combat vehicles to Somalia.
The US has been one of Somalia’s most important partners on security matters. It has also trained members of the highly regarded Danab Special Force.
