US Urges Somali Leaders to Resolve Issues Raised at Dhusamareb Fast

The United States government has encouraged Somalia leaders to resolve the issues raised at the recent National Consultative Conference in Dhusamareb.

The Dhusamareb talks ran from February 1-5.

On the last day, news broke out that Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and Federal Member States (FMS) at the Dhusamareb talks failed to agree a new deal.

This week, President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo called for resumption of the talks from February 15 in Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland state.

While welcoming the decision to resume the elections talks, the US Embassy in Somalia urged leaders to honor the agreement signed on September 17, 2020.

The September 17 agreement provided details of the electoral model and the process the country was to go through before holding parliamentary and presidential elections.

Additionally, the US government requested for “demonstration of inspired leadership as well as clarify of direction and unity” by political leaders for the benefit of all Somalis.
