The United States has urged Somalia to conclude its parliamentary elections before the end of 2021.
Elections for the House of the People (Lower House) seats have already kicked off in Somalia.
Delegates in Somaliland have elected two Members of Parliament (MPs) for the Lower House, including Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Gulaid.
The United States Embassy in Mogadishu spoke on the issue on November 14.
According to a statement from the US Embassy, all the regional states need to honor the call by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to conclude elections before 2022.
The parliamentary elections are more than a year due.
On Saturday, Somalia concluded its elections for Upper House (Senate) seats after Galmudug State held the polls for the two remaining seats.
The statement from the US Embassy also reminded stakeholders that funds are available to ensure that a significant number of Lower House polls take place on time.
It mentioned funds from the candidates’ registration fees as well as contributions from Somalia’s development partners.
Roble recently issued a call for the Lower House polls to be concluded by end of November 2021.
