The United States government has warned airlines plying the Kenya and Somalia route to be wary of Al-Shabaab’s capabilities.
A communiqué from the US military in the region warns that the militants are capable of falling airplanes flying at an altitude of not more than 25,000ft.
The US military warned firms running civilian airlines that Al-Shabaab retains possession of weapons that can hit and fall airplanes flying at that height.
Specifically, the US military mentioned planes flying along northeastern Kenya and Somali route.
The northeastern Kenya-Somalia aviation route is quite popular with civilian airlines.
