USAID Launches New Food Security Program in Somalia Worth $29 Million

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Somalia launched a new $29 million food security program in Mogadishu on Thursday.

The program focuses on addressing food insecurity and malnutrition, while also strengthening local communities’ resilience to climate-related shocks.

Key attendees at the event included USAID Somalia Mission Director, Dr. Catie Lott, Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim Abdullahi, and Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, George Conway.

This initiative reflects USAID’s continued commitment to supporting Somalia’s development and humanitarian priorities amid ongoing challenges in food security and climate resilience.
