The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has urged Somalia to embrace renewable energy.
USAID expressed delight a the fact that some electricity service providers (ESPs) in Somalia are already moving away from diesel.
It noted that diesel is not only quite expensive but also imported thus not readily available in the East African nation.
On the other hand, renewable energy is much cheaper and readily available.
Thus far, Power Africa provided technical support on renewable energy to seven Somali ESPs.
Power Africa is a partnership led by the United States government to add 60 million electricity connections in sub-Sahara Africa by 2039.
