Veteran Director of Somalia’s Largest Think-Tank Quits

A veteran director of the largest think-tank group in Somalia has resigned from his position on February 12.

Abdirashid Hashi, who has served as the Director of Heritage Institute of Policy Studies (HIPS), resigned from his post on February 11.

With his resignation, Hashi ended his 11-year reign as HIPS’ director.

The hugely popular director will be remembered for helping Somalia to formulate a modern governance structure.

He played a crucial role in Somalia’s drafting and adoption of an alternative electoral model.

Hashi has won widespread praise for leading HIPS to develop and release credible analysis of the policies and governance structures that Somalia needs today.

On Friday, HIPS confirmed Hashi’s departure.

According to HIPS, Hashi is expected to leave the office formally on February 28.

HIPS announced that Mursal Saney, the think-tank’s current Deputy Director, would formally take over from Hashi on March 1, 2021 as the Executive Director.
